Jackals are medium-sized omnivorous mammals belonging to the Canidae family. Known for their intelligence and adaptability, they inhabit grasslands, savannas, and arid regions in Africa, Asia, and southeastern Europe. There are three main species of jackals: the golden jackal, side-striped jackal, and black-backed jackal.
Jackals are opportunistic feeders, capable of hunting small mammals, birds, and reptiles, as well as scavenging from larger predators' kills. They also eat fruits and insects, showcasing their diverse diet. Highly social creatures, jackals often live in monogamous pairs and are known for their loud, high-pitched calls that communicate territory and warn of danger.
